The World as You Know It Doesn’t Exist

There is no world out there.

Not at least the world you experience.  Yes, there is something out there, but what you are experiencing isn’t it.  What you are experiencing is your opinion, your perception and your conditioning.  How you relate to the world is what the world is for you.  Two people can be in the exact same situation and have completely different experiences.

Are there atoms, electrons and such out there in the world? Apparently science is getting a better grasp on that.  But it takes multimillion dollar machines to see what is really going on in the world.  So the actual reality is not something humans have day-to-day access to.  You and I have access to the information our senses bring in to our consciousness.

Why is this relevant?

Your husband isn’t really a jerk.  That’s just your opinion.  Not the truth.

The president isn’t actually doing anything you say he is.  That’s just your perception of the situation.

The world isn’t all screwed up.  That’s just the way you see it.

There is nothing to fear.  That’s just a biological reaction to the stimulus in the environment.  Other people aren’t afraid of the same things you are.  Therefore you fear is not real or the truth.

Today see the world for what it really is, just your opinion.  Notice how much more relaxed and enjoyable life is.

Positive People with Crappy Lives… Why?

SadnessAs a life coach, my job is to help people see the truth so that they can accept it, transform it and move forward. This is difficult for most positive people. Why? Because positive thinking has been taught to so many of us as “the way” when in fact, it is the impact of a particular perspective.

Meaning, when you adopt positive modes of thinking, you are practicing the effect of something else. This makes it inauthentic. Most positive people, when pressed, admit that there are a lot of things they are unhappy about. “But I shouldn’t talk about them Matthew because that is negative!!” they tell me.

Not true. To have a host of areas of your life that you are unhappy with and then be positive about them is like putting your head in the sand. I call it the Rose Garden with the Sewer underneath.

Okay. Positivity is important, powerful and life transforming. But it is the natural affect of being able to accept and effectively dealing with all that doesn’t work in your life. That’s where myself and my coaches come in for most people.

Even more importantly, negativity is really good. Negativity creates desire. Negativity is the seed of creativity. Negativity is the fountain of innovation and change. Without negativity we would all be sitting around doing nothing.

Negativity is not so good when you resist it and can’t allow it to exist in your life.

Reliability is the Source of Opportunity

As a life coach, part of my job is to help you make promises that will create the life of your dreams.  The problem is, most people don’t know how to make and keep promises.  Most people make a promise, don’t keep it and then come up with a good excuse as to why it didn’t happen.  They believe as long as there is a good excuse it’s almost like they kept it.

Most of my clients are very very successful people in life.  The problem super successful people have is the fact that they can convince people to not hold them accountable.

When you don’t fess up to your broken promises, you begin to degrade your credibility.  This thwarts future opportunities.  My job as a coach is to help you get real.  So what promises have you made and broken and then not owned up?  Make a list today and then use the five step process to get it cleaned up and restore your credibility.  The more people who trust you and believe in you, the more opportunities come your way.

What to do when you have settled for mediocre?

ape_with_monkey_wrench_hg_whtAre you stuck in a mediocre life?  A client recently said, “I’ve made it OK that I live a mediocre, sucky life and that I have settled for less than I could be.”

In the Inspired Action Coaching process I start by addressing the fact that this is a fantasy.  Mediocre… sucky… settled… compared to what?  When did you sit down and map out the standards that you are holding yourself to?  I don’t think you did.  I think you accidentally adopted these hurtful ways of thinking about yourself.  You have no evidence that any of it is true.

All you have is your opinion.  Did you generate this opinion, or did The Drunk Monkey hit you over the head with it? If you really pay attention, you will see that The Drunk Monkey in your head is automatically generating thoughts without your permission.  Don’t believe me?  Tell your mind to stop thinking thoughts and see what happens.  It’s not in your control and it definitely doesn’t like you.

Today notice how there are two people in your head.  The Drunk Monkey who never shuts up and someone listening.

Radio Interview

Nellie Jacobs does a radio show Igniting Imagination on Blog Talk Radio.  She interviews creative types and digs out their thought processes.  Very in depth.  If you need some inspiration today, take the time to listen to this  show.  Plus, she plays a couple segments of songs that I’ve written in the past (fun).

The Truth

Hmm?

Hmm?

The rigorous truth of your life is that all is well.

Yes, there may be things that you prefer would be different.  But your preference doesn’t make “how it is” wrong.  If you are very honest, other than your opinions or preferences, life is perfect the way it is.

Today. just notice how perfect everything is the way that it is.  Practice inventing opinions and reasons that validate the perfection of every aspect of your life.  Notice how much more peaceful and powerful you are taking this approach.  It takes practice because it’s not normal.  The Drunk Monkey (your mind) is not programmed to notice how things are perfect the way that they are.  The Drunk Monkey’s job is to figure out what is wrong and kill it, fix it or avoid it.  Ignore the monkey today, okay?
