Bring Gratitude Into Your Life

Why is focusing on being grateful so powerful?

And the answer is- nobody really knows. But all of the evidence, both in anecdotes and with science, provides us with an established notion that being grateful is extremely powerful in your life.

One of the things that I noticed happens when you start putting gratitude into your life on a daily basis, is that you begin to engage those happy chemicals. You start to feel the endorphins and the dopamine and the serotonin really start to kick in, and you can feel that. You feel your happiness start to increase. Why?

Your natural state is happiness, joy, peace, bliss. That is your natural state. But when you let your mind run the show, the mind’s job is to focus in on all those things that are currently going wrong in your life, and trying to either avoid them, fix them, kill them, whatever. So, if you listen to the thinking in your head, the thinking in your head’s job is to move you away from what could potentially be dangerous and then have you either avoid it, kill it, or fix it.

And so when you go into gratitude, you’re actually going beyond what your mind is thinking. You get focused in on how now is good. Now is right. Now works. And that’s a non-fearful state. And when you’re not fearful, guess what? You’re happy. You’re fulfilled. You’re satisfied. And I highly recommend that you take a daily dose of gratitude, and you utilize that in your life.

Why the World Won’t Let You Change

The world won’t let you change, but not because the world is bad, or wrong, or evil, or against you. The world won’t let you change because you have convinced the world that you are the person that you are today. So when you try to change, you actually break rapport with your own environment.

When you try to make changes, the people around you experience broken expectations. They’re thrown off. They feel uncomfortable. They feel uneasy because they’re used to you being a certain way. The world won’t let you change because you convinced the world you are what you are today.

The next step for you is to get clear about who you are and what you’re all about now, and then convince the world of that. And when you do, everything will change.

Resignation Will Destroy Your Dreams

“Why bother?”
“I don’t even know why I try.”
“It’s not gonna work out anyways.”
“I mean, I’ve done it in the past and it just doesn’t work.”
“I mean, it’s just not my style.”
“I just can’t do it.”

Those are thoughts of resignation. Resignation will destroy your dreams. It will destroy your life. Resignation is not the truth. When you are resigned and cynical about things, you cannot move forward with your life. You are basically taking the past and you’re inserting it into the future and you’re saying that the future will be like the past. And that, my friend, is a hallucination.

The future will not be like the past. The future will be whatever you choose, whatever you decide. You make new decisions and new choices. You take a stab at new dreams, and that is what will come true.

You Transform What You Accept

When you accept things, you’re able to transform them. You’re able to turn them into something. When you resist things, you cause them to persist. Resisting and pushing against something actually pulls it towards you. When you accept it, as it’s coming, you need to align with it, and then you can redirect it and move it any way that you want it to go.

So, if something in my life is bothering me, the most powerful thing for me to do is to accept it and then as soon as I accept it or align with it, I can redirect it.

Is the Golden Rule Getting you in Trouble?

Alone in a CrowdThe golden rule states, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Luke 6:31)  If you are new to personal development, it’s a pretty good place to start.  But in the end it will get you in trouble.  Everyone is different and believes that they should be treated uniquely, based on their preferences.

Therefore, treating people based on your preferences will generally create conflict… especially with strangers.  Kindness seems like a good idea to most personal development students but in some cases it backfires.  For example:  Many people were raised in environments where kindness was seen as weak and easy to take advantage of.   In some cases you must take on a more dominant style in order to be in harmony.  That proves to be difficult to the “positive crew”.

Most personal development students think that people who aren’t positive are less than people who are.  This is nothing more then The Drunk Monkey using personal development as a new tool to protect you from all the “different” and therefore potentially dangerous people in the world.

Again, if you are dealing with people who are not in your tribe and treat them the way you want to be treated, don’t get disappointed when they don’t play by your rules.  Because they don’t know your rules.  The golden rule leads to righteousness.  I’m sure that Luke wanted us to be kind to people but the truth is we use The Golden Rule to hold others accountable to behavior they never agreed to.

If you don’t take the time to understand who people are and step in line with their style of dealing with the world, you will get in trouble.  Things won’t be easy for you.
