Contrast is Necessary in Your Life

When you set goals, when you write out intentions or dream, what that does is that it immediately creates contrast. So, think about it like this; you set the goal to be kind. In that moment, instantaneously, all the things in your life that piss you off come up. All the places in which you have to examine how you are not kind and how you relate to the world in an unkind, judging, mean, nasty way. All that stuff comes up.

So, I want you to know that when you set goals, immediately what comes up is the contrast. And the contrast then just further amplifies your desire. Not only does it further amplify your desire, it also gets you really clear about what you need to do, what actions you need to take. The moment I set a goal, for example to generate another ten clients, I immediately become aware of how I’m not set up to do that. And it gives me an opportunity to choose new actions, new behaviors, new thoughts, new ways, to produce the results that I want.

Your goals and your dreams provide the contrast necessary for clarity and they also amplify your desire.

100 Days To Change My Life

iStock_000009126913MediumToday is my 42nd birthday and it also denotes 100 days until the end of 2009.  I’m going to do 4 things to change my life.  There are my “100 days to..” projects.

1.  100 days to be in the best shape of my life.

I’ve created a spread sheet with my workout accountability partner that has everyday we are going to work out and I’ve written what we are going to do on each day.  We have added our measurements and our goals.  I am going to track everything I’m doing as a structure.  What you measure you can improve.

2.  100 days to renewed levels of intimacy and connection with Claudine.

I’ve mapped out 10 things I’m going to do in the next 100 days to deepen our relationship.

3.  100 days to the best relationship I’ve ever had with each of my four kids.

I’ve made a project list for each child and I’ve set up the monitoring and accountability to make sure I take these relationships to new heights of love, connection and friendship.

4.  100 days to the complete re-branding of Matthew Ferry International.

I’ve contracted a branding and design company and the game is now in motion.

Action is POINTLESS without an empowering context

So many of my clients are action oriented.  They set goals and attach them with massive intensity.  And that works to a point.  But it doesn’t create a life and a business that is easy, effortless and enjoyable.

To accelerate your life and your goals with far less work, create an empowering context.

In other words, what is the experience you seek in the results you are chasing?  More happiness, more acceptance, more fulfillment?

The Inspired Action coach’s job is to help you achieve this experience of an empowering context now, not someday.  When you feel fulfilled now, without the results, your results are exponential.  One does not equal one.  One equals eleven.  Taking action before defining your context just makes everything hard and never satisfying.  What you want is the feeling/being state so skip the results and feel the way you want to feel first.  The results will naturally follow.

Ask yourself these three questions about your goals to get to the experience you want:

1.  What’s important about your goal?

2.  How is answer #1 important to you?

3.  Ultimately, what will all of that do for you?

You’ll find that you get to answers like happiness, peace of mind, joy etc.  Now begin to look for how you can create those experiences in everything you do.  Next thing you know you are feeling fulfilled now verses someday in the future.  Results multiply in those conditions.
