Lower Your Standards – Make More Money!!

In a post on October 18th (view it here) I advised my client to stop setting goals that made her feel bad.  Over and over she set goals she never hit.  Consiquently she felt like a failure.  I told her to lower her standards to something she could hit.

Well she did and guess what?  It worked.  She had been saying over and over “I’m going to get $30k in new business this month!” and not doing it.  In September lowered the standard and started hitting it.  In November, with a goal of $15k, she hit $30k!!

Are you shooting yourself in the foot by setting your goals to high and consequently feeling like crap?  When you feel bad you aren’t effective and you keep the cycle in place.  Make your goals attainable, feel good and accelerate!

Inspired Action is the Most Effective

If you take action without inspiration your result is gonna be okay. But if you take action from a place of being totally inspired – the results are unbelievable. You could get two times, three times, four times the results from being inspired. So, how do you get into a place of inspiration? Well, you’ve got to first see the future that you’re committed to. So, you’ve got to get connected to that goal or dream and what it will mean to you. That’s one thing.

Another thing to get inspired is to go into a state of gratitude, to get grateful about everything that you are thinking about now, everything that your life is. I use a technique called the ten-ten visualization process. So, I’ll make a list of ten things I’m grateful for, and then I’ll make a list of ten goals and dreams, and then at night, before I go to sleep, I’ll visualize both lists.

So, I’ll get emotionally connected to everything that I’m grateful for and then emotionally connected to all my goals and dreams. And then, what happens is I wake up inspired. And when I wake up inspired and I take action, it’s magic. Miracles happen. Try it.

Deatch, Allow and Receive

When you’re attached, things don’t really work very well. People say, “Well, you need to detach.” Right? Well, what does that mean exactly? It means that you come to grips with the outcomes of your goals and dreams being okay if they fail or if they succeed, or anywhere in between. You detach. I have a client, for example, who is in the middle of building an enormous division inside of a very big bank. And he had a key meeting today. And in this meeting, if the person said, “Yes,” then all of his dreams – everything that he’s been working on, comes into fruition in one meeting.

So, you can imagine that, initially, he was like, “Oh my god, is it going to work and what am I going to do?” And all that – and the drunk monkey in his head. What if? What if? What if? What if? What if? What if? What if? Now, what I had to do was help him to come to grips that his project may not go the way he wants and that his dream may collapse right there. And I had to get him to a place where he could deal with that and accept it, that if it didn’t go he’d be okay.

The moment he got there, he could detach, he could allow the meeting to occur naturally without any manipulation, without any force, without any trying to make people do stuff. And then he could be open to receive exactly what he wanted. Detach. Allow. And receive.

Create New Standards For Yourself

Are you creating standards that make you feel bad about yourself, about your personality, about your situation? Are you holding yourself accountable to standards that don’t even exist? I’d be willing to bet that you are.

Take my client for example, she sets a goal every single month to bring in $30,000.00 in revenue. Every single month she brings in about $12,000 to $15,000 in revenue. I keep saying to her, “Why don’t we set a goal to bring in $15,000 because that is a stretch month for you?” And she keeps saying, “No, no, I can do $30,000. Whatever you put your mind on, you can get” blah blah blah!!

Well, this, my friend, is a structure for feeling like crap, and she feels like crap all the time. Now when you feel like crap, you don’t expand and you don’t get better. You’re not more effective. So when you hold yourself accountable to standards that make you feel bad, you actually diminish or create a worse result and experience for yourself in life.

So many people are holding themselves accountable to standards that don’t exist for their body. They’re making their body wrong. You may thing “my body shouldn’t look like that, my butt is too big” blah blah blah! Well, in the end, the drunk monkey in your head is literally trying to protect you from you, and protect you from the circumstances in your life. That just shows you how safe your life is. Your life is so perfect, wonderful, delicious, easygoing, and effortless that your mind now is bored and is now spending its time trying to keep you safe from you.

It’s insanity. Start to call BS on the mind. Start to know that life is perfect and the only thing that makes it unperfect is your opinion. And I’d like you to just notice that you don’t even generate your own opinions. Your opinions just bubble up, blub, blub, blub, blub. They’re not even yours. They’re automatic.
