…and then you die!

Nervous WreckIt’s hard to be happy when you forget that your life is temporary, transient and basically meaningless.  Profound happiness can not be achieved by speculating about the future or contemplating the past.  Yet The Drunk Monkey spends endless time on the past and future.

Your life you will go up, down, all around and then you die.  When you die the people in your life will throw dirt on your face and have a party.  In 100 years, it’s likely your life will be completely forgotten and irrelevant.

“Seriousness is a disease of the ego.”

That’s what my mentor, Stewart Wilde, told me in my 20’s.  I didn’t understand what he meant until my late 30’s.  I was so rapped up in succeeding, getting ahead and showing the world that I am valuable.  Sometimes it worked, other times it didn’t.  My emotions were yanked from positive to negative based on the external events.  My experience of life was messed up by my expectations.

Today I see my clients making their lives miserable by judging and comparing this moment to the elusive “Should Be”.  By focusing on what should have been or what might be they make themselves miserable.  It took me a long time to realize that breakdowns lead to breakthroughs and therefore worrying about it is irrelevant.  To worry, stress and freak out messes with the point of this life.  The Now.  That is where the profound sense of happiness and fulfillment lies.

No matter how much you try, you will die.  Life is not serious or important.  To believe that this life is important leads to all sorts of negative experiences.  Rest assured, life will contradict your opinion and if you think it should be other then it is… you will be unhappy.  Life is doing what ever it is doing regardless of your opinion.  Let it go and enjoy today, okay?

Are you living your ANTI-Purpose?

istock_000001909034smallAs a life coach I work with people everyday who dream about one day doing what they want with their life.  Most people are living their anti-purpose.  They are feeding the lifestyle demons.  It’s all about the money.  Day in and day out, going to work to pay for the life they have — hoping that someday they will have the life they want.  It never happens.  You can have all the money and stuff in the world and still feel empty, wondering, “When am I going to arrive?”.  I have clients who have made hundreds of millions and they still wonder when it’s all going to work out.

Most people are living their ANTI-purpose.  Building a life that will ultimately lead somewhere else.  This is an endless loop of dissatisfaction.

You must take the time to discover your true purpose in life.  Not what you will “do” but what you will “experience”.  Almost every person who starts the Inspired Action Coaching process believes that “Someday when they are DOING this, then they will be EXPERIENCING that.”

My coaches and I work with people to help them realize that this equation is backwards.  When you are experiencing the feeling and emotions you want now, what you do becomes irrelevant.  When what you do becomes irrelevant, you start to do only the things you want.  And the activities that you won’t like become more enjoyable and you suddenly do them better.

If you want, I can have someone on my staff introduce you to this process as my gift to you (my reader).  Click here to receive a free discover your purpose mentoring call.  Be sure to enter the code blogreader or you will have to pay $198.75 for this service.

How much wealth would create bliss?

istock_000006439150mediumThe answer is NONE.  External factors have nothing to do with how you feel.  Two people can be in the exact same situation and feel completely different.  Bliss, which is defined as supreme happiness, is the natural feeling state of “no mind”.  The mind which I lovingly call The Drunk Monkey uses negative feelings to mobilize the body and move it away from potentially dangerous situations.

When you are feeling bliss it is because you are present to the notion that all is well in your life, nothing needs to change, nothing needs to improve and life is good.  This start is a discipline created by an awareness of the Drunk Monkey followed by a transending of the Drunk Monkey.  Transending the Drunk Monkey means you see it for what it is and no longer give it any value or meaning in your life.  Try this free 20 minute meditation I created called All is Well and tell me how you feel afterwards.
