Be in a Perpetual State of Now

You are in a perpetual state of now. And I know that a lot of people think “but what does it mean exactly?” Well, it basically means that the drunk monkey in your head is constantly fantasizing about what’s coming up in the future. It’s obsessed with controlling the next minute, the next second, the next hour, the next day, the next year. And I want you to notice that there’s not much the drunk monkey can do about it.

The wisest thing to do is to ignore it and to say, “You know what, monkey, what is going to happen will be perfect. I have things I am committed to. I’m not being irresponsible. I do set goals and have objectives. But obsessing and going over and over and over it in my head right now really is not doing us any good.”

Another thing that the drunk monkey does that keeps you out of the present moment is it’s constantly thinking about the past. It’s regretting. It’s trying to re-write your past to make you look more favorable and it’s saying, “Well, that guy was wrong and he shouldn’t have been like that and that was really stupid and blah blah blah!” Just notice that you have so little control over this babbling and rambling in your head and that lack of control ultimately kills your bliss.

What you want to learn to do is ignore it. Try to constantly catch it and just say, “Shut up, monkey, I’m not interested.” Be right here, right now in the present moment. It’s very, very powerful. Lots of energy. Lots of joy. Lots of ecstasy available and waiting for you. But you have to learn to see or recognize the rambling in your head as completely irrelevant and then stop listening. And in that moment, you’ll be higher than you’ve ever been.

Are You Spiritual or Resigned?

I often wonder if spiritual people are actually just resigned and they’re using their spirituality as their reason for not creating the life that they dream of. I know that I have many, many times said to myself, “Well, you know, I’m just practicing being spiritual.” But my life sucked. My life was a disaster. And I’ve found that when I take responsibility for my life being amazing and I bring spiritual principles to each and every category of my life, what happens is my ability to be spiritual is just phenomenal and I’m just out of control with happiness and peace.

Are you using your spirituality as a cop out, a way in which you don’t have to be responsible for making your life amazing? I’d be willing to bet that there are places you’re doing that. Cut it out. Start using your spiritual principles to actually make your life extraordinary everywhere. Ultimately, a spiritual person is someone who is extremely responsible. Is that you?

How You Feel is Your State of Mind

If you don’t feel good, it’s just a state of mind. It’s the perspective that you are adopting in the moment. All there is to do is to change your perspective. Look at it and expand out. Often times what happens when you don’t feel good is you get super focused on this one, little tiny thing that isn’t working. But if you expand your view a little bit and look around, you start to see there’s a lot in your life that is actually working right now.

The moment I see that there is a lot in my life that is working right now, I start to feel good again. The moment I feel good, I am more attractive. When I feel good, I am more charismatic. When I feel good, I’m smarter about stuff. When I feel good, I can take more effective action. When I feel good, I can say the right thing, do the right thing, you know, it’s just like you get in that flow. It’s all about your perception.

What Makes You Suffer?

Your point of view is what makes you suffer, nothing else. None of the circumstances in your life, none of the people in your life, where you were born, the circumstances with which you were born, where you find yourself now. You getting fired from your job does not cause you to suffer. Your children not doing what you want them to do does cause you to suffer. Your suffering is a function of the opinion that you have, and you have an opinion that life shouldn’t be the way that it is.

I hate to break the news that when you have that opinion, you’re going to suffer. And so consider that you’re holding people, the world and everyone around you accountable to agreements that they never made. You want to get out of the suffering? Let go of those agreements and begin to align with the way the world is and see what happens.

The Quick Way to Feel Joy Now

Pretty young woman with arms raisedThe quickest way to feeling joy in your life is to stop paying attention to The Drunk Monkey (your mind).  Life is so much more enjoyable when you don’t pay too much attention to the rambling bumbling insanity in your head.  Today just focus on the beauty that is all around you.  Pay attention to air on your skin, the sun on your face or the smell of flowers.  When you do, you will feel joy.  When you feel joy, life is easy, effortless and enjoyable.  Isn’t that what you want?

How much wealth would create bliss?

istock_000006439150mediumThe answer is NONE.  External factors have nothing to do with how you feel.  Two people can be in the exact same situation and feel completely different.  Bliss, which is defined as supreme happiness, is the natural feeling state of “no mind”.  The mind which I lovingly call The Drunk Monkey uses negative feelings to mobilize the body and move it away from potentially dangerous situations.

When you are feeling bliss it is because you are present to the notion that all is well in your life, nothing needs to change, nothing needs to improve and life is good.  This start is a discipline created by an awareness of the Drunk Monkey followed by a transending of the Drunk Monkey.  Transending the Drunk Monkey means you see it for what it is and no longer give it any value or meaning in your life.  Try this free 20 minute meditation I created called All is Well and tell me how you feel afterwards.
