Lowering The Bar on Meditation Increased My Desire To Do It

Been mediating a lot. Sometimes 2 hours. I’ve really lowered the bar and it helped. I have a minimum standard of 1 minute of mediation per day. That has lead to endless hours of mediation because there is no pressure. I just say, “All I have to do is 1 minute” I close my eyes take a few deep breaths and 45 minutes later decide to stop.

When I use to force myself to do it everyday for 30 minutes it seemed like a chore so I resisted it. 1 minute is no big deal. I’ve now meditated 179 days in a row. My personal record.

Hi Matthew, this was such a simple post but so true!

Is this not the case for most things we do in life?

You have really got me thinking and I think it is time to meditate again.

    Thanks so much.

    Hi Matthew,
Congratulations on your meditation routine. Good idea to lower the bar when you want to do something but the bar seems too high. Better to start off a little lower and then raise it.

Thanks Pamela. Last night I sat down to meditate and I really didn’t feel like it. I just wanted to go to bed. I said, “Just one minute!”… 40 minutes later I opened my eyes delighted at the experience. It’s such an effective way to think about it.

Wow that’s great. It’s the quality of the meditation and not the length. Very good Matthew.
