The Process Leading to Acceptance & Oneness

One of my clients has begun a meditation practice.  He journals after each session.  His last journal entry was very insightful and I thought you would enjoy his perspective.

“Twenty minutes again and the most spiritually enlightening of any of my contemplations to date. After allowing six minutes to still myself, I began contemplating David Hawkins‘ Map of Consciousness. I realized that in every aspect of life, the path to happiness is the same. In the first place, you often feel anger towards those things you see as outside of yourself and adverse to your ambitions. As you progress, you become motivated to take action against these things and become antagonistic towards them.  With experience and more thought, you may eventually adapt to these other presences in your life.  As you progress still further and broaden your perspective, you acknowledge other positions and powers.  Later, you you internalize that feeling and truly accept other people and your environment. Having accepted the inherent goodness in what surrounds you, you come to love it and with enough live you begin to identify with it.   With sufficient identification with object apparently outside yourself, you become one with them.”

Powerful Gratitude Exercise

So what actions can you take today to immediately take advantage of the power of gratitude? The first thing that I’d recommend is something that I recommend to all of my coaching students when they come to me. That is the 10/10 visualization process.

I’ve coached 8,000 people over the years, and most of them have come to me in some sort of stuck state. That’s generally where people come to me. They’re stuck in some way, and one of the quickest ways to get unstuck is through a process of gratitude and visioning, and that’s what the 10/10 visualization is.

So here’s what I want you to do. I want you to make a list of 10 things that you love about your life today right now; go in your life and look at everything you’re grateful for. Then I want you to make a list of 10 goals and dreams that you want to accomplish. I like to look in 10 different categories. You can look in your family, your primary relationship, your spiritual life, your mental, emotional life, your physical body, your children. You can look in your financial life, your business life; contributions that you’re making, social life, recreation, hobbies. There are so many areas that you can set goals in.

So make a list of 10 things you’re grateful; 10 goals and dreams, and then every night before you go to bed so leave this list on your night stand next to your bed. Every night before you go to bed review both lists; 10 things I’m grateful for; 10 things that I want to accomplish. Then close your eyes and as you’re drifting off to sleep I want to visualize the things that you are grateful for and get into that grateful state. Now this is not easy to do. It may take 21 times of doing this before you actually get to that place where you are moved to tears of joy. If you’re not moved to tears of joy, don’t even worry about that; just you want to get focused in on what you’re grateful for.

When you visualize things you’re grateful for your mind starts to say, “Wait a second my life is good,” and so you don’t get the monkey coming in saying, “You’re so stupid, and you’ll never accomplish that, and what about all these things and you’re fat and you’re ugly, and this doesn’t work right.” That’s what happens a lot of times when we go to visualize our goals and dreams. So, by going to what you’re grateful for first, you give yourself a basis with which to then you can build upon, and your mind will more easily accept your goals and dreams.

Can Gratitude Shape Your Destiny?

How can practicing gratitude shape your destiny? The answer is very simple. You become what you think about, so you need to focus on what is working in your life. The more you focus on how your life is good and on what makes you happy, the more your life becomes what makes you happy! Your life becomes all the things you are grateful for.   So your future becomes more and more what you like about your life.

Now let’s look at the other side of it.  the drunk monkey in your head, and it’s talking and thinking about what’s not working, what you’re afraid of, what you need to avoid and fix. The drunk monkey is attracting more of that stuff into your life. It’s attracting more of what you don’t want, so your life becomes progressively more difficult to deal with.  Gratitude literally turns your life in a direction that is more of what you want. It will shape your destiny in ways that you can’t even imagine. Your life is gonna become progressively more joyous as you’re practicing gratitude.

How Can Gratitude Help Your Spiritually?

How can gratitude help you spiritually? Well, the answer is very simple. Spirituality, ultimately, is just aligning yourself with the truth, and the truth is that life is good. I mean, if you’re reading this blog post right now, you’re someone who’s interested in making your life better. So, it’s not like you’re in a bad situation because people who are in a bad situation, they don’t find themselves attracted to personal development information; that’s just the way it is, so your life is good.

You have many things that work for you. Being connected to your spirituality is ultimately to be connected to all things that are optimistic, uplifting; that bring joy; that bring fulfillment; that bring the connection; understanding and appreciation, and connecting with people. How do you connect with people? You appreciate things about them and you appreciate the things in your life. That is a form of gratitude. It is also about understanding things, and to understand things you have to bring appreciation in. Gratitude is a fantastic tool for bolstering your own spirituality. If you’re going to declare that your spirituality is that feeling of being totally connected to the world and to people, gratitude is very effective for that.

Are Spiritual People Losers?

Do spiritual people have to be losers? No, they don’t.

One of my clients said to me, “Matthew, if I get too spiritual, then I’m going to find that I don’t want to work anymore, and I don’t want to be with my family, and you know I’m not gonna live up to my responsibilities.” But that is just not true! The exact opposite is true. As you develop your spirituality, the belief in the unseen forces of life and the meta-physical understanding and appreciation, your fear starts to disappear. And when your fear starts to disappear, you become incredibly responsible, effective, and powerful.

I highly recommend that you take on spirituality and fostering your beliefs in your spirituality because it is going to make you a more productive and effective person in our society.
