Law of Attraction and Sick Kids

I answered this on Yahoo Answers and I thought you might enjoy my thoughts.

“A friend recently introduced me to The Secret: Law of Attraction, a concept I found extremely interesting. Upon further research, I found that it is strongly linked with the new thought movement. Both of these concepts believe that everything in our lives is attracted to us via our thoughts, so illness comes from negative thoughts. How can this be applied to, for example, a 6-year-old boy with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or a very ill baby, as they aren’t going to have negative thoughts enough to bring on such illness? I just don’t understand how this works, and when asking my friend, who is a complete believer in this, she didn’t know the answer.”

My Answer:
New thought is not a theory of everything.  People are born with certain propensities toward health, well-being, attitude etc.  You will find those who are attracted to New Thought are searching for meaning.  There are just some things we don’t understand.

Why a child is born with a life threatening or debilitating illness is a mystery.  That being said, the child’s life is still being dramatically influenced by his or her thoughts and the thoughts of others.  An infant is positively influenced by the loving and secure feelings of those around it.

If the 6-year-old child, by the grace of God or some higher power, is able to step back and feel blessed for being alive as long as he or she has been, then a transformation will occur in the child’s experience.  Life will suddenly seem “better”.  Though nothing will have changed.  This might influence the child’s health condition in a positive way, and it might not.  It is still a mystery as to why some people miraculously heal while others don’t.  One thing is for certain.  If the child begins to feel gratitude for the time he or she has had here on Earth, then the experience of the illness will change.  The child will no longer feel like a victim and that will improve the child’s condition dramatically.  Maybe not physically, but emotionally.  There are many studies that demonstrate how a persons thoughts can improve their physical condition.  Many survivors of life threatening illnesses attest to positive thoughts as an integral part of their healing process.

Rather than looking for evidence that proves New Thought to be inaccurate, spend some time investigating its’ accuracy in your own life.  Begin small.  Start by visualizing insignificant things that you want to manifest into your experience like a blue butterfly.  Visualize it and then notice how butterflies begin to show up everywhere in your life.  Don’t be attached to seeing an actual butterfly.  Be open to pictures, jewelry, etc.  When you see a butterfly, then pick something else.  Notice that what you focus on appears in your life.  Just keep visualizing small insignificant things until you appear.  This will build your belief that what you think about will show up.  With practice you can get bigger and bigger.  Many people attest to this phenomenon but it must be experienced personally to really get it.

What To Do When Things Don’t Manifest

I’m sitting in row 20 seat E.  That’s the middle seat at the back of the plane.  This morning, not knowing what seat my assistant had booked me for this trip I wrote in my intentions, rather spontaneously, “I am so thankful to the universe for providing me with first class seats on the way up and back to Seattle this week… or something better!”

This isn’t normally something I spend too much time manifesting as I practice being in a state of Ridiculous Bliss where ever I am, regardless of the circumstances.  But I know what my clients would say, “Where is your manifesting now, Mr. Smarty Pants?”  The answer is easy and complex.

The easy answer is that something better is on its way and at this very moment I have no idea what it is.  The complex answer is that this situation is apparently better for all.  Now that I say it, I can see that I am writing about this experience, which is a contribution to the global understanding of The Law of Attraction and the power to manifest.  It’s also giving me a a chance to be in a state of perfection as I’m squished into my seat, elbows tucked tightly into my sides computer screen tilted slightly down so that I can barely see it because the person in front of me has their seat all the way back.

The complex answer is that I cannot possibly understand the state of perfection that I’m in.  The Drunk Monkey in my head has only my five senses to bring in information to which it correlates its past experiences and comes up with a hypothesis, a hallucination about what this moment is and what it will be.  The truth is much broader and more expansive then I could ever possibly imagine.  The Drunk Monkey can only speculate that because its expectations have been broken and that the seat is less comfortable then other seating arrangements, that something must be wrong and NOW is not good.

If I allow The Drunk Monkey to run the show I don’t feel good.  Instead, I  meditate, focus on what I’m grateful for, appreciate the design of the plane, appreciate the backs of the heads that I can see, notice how interesting the two very “engrossed in their own stuff” people are to my left and right.  I will find the joy in this moment via the most powerful state I know… Appreciation.  When I stay committed to being in a good place no matter what the circumstances are, everything turns out better than The Drunk Monkey could have imagined.

Life Coach Confirms Law of Attraction Visualizing Myth

“Just visualize it!” is what so many say.

“Good Luck!” That’s what I say.

Visualizing has been taken out of context.

The many great men and women who told us about visualizing produced spectacular results. Taken out of context people began to assume that if you visualize, then you will get those results too. Not true.

Visualizing is the beginning of the creation process but it is not a magic answer. When mega producers, elite athletes, and geniuses of the past have espoused the power of visualizing, they included it as a part of their process. Not the whole process. It’s the beginning of something you are going to create. Everything begins in the mind. Thoughts DO become things if you do the work to bring them into existence.

Little things like butterflies and parking spaces are easy to manifest, just visualize.

The universe is a creative place. To prove this to yourself, visualize a blue butterfly right now and then notice how you start seeing butterflies everywhere in the next couple days.

Manifesting major stuff like one million dollars takes a full physical, mental, emotional, spiritual alignment. Yes, some have visualized a million bucks and it happened by winning the lottery, but that is not replicable. Odds are not in your favor. Brilliant men and women of the past have showed us that visualizing the end result combined with doing the work, stacks the odds in your favor.

You ever try to visualize a million bucks?  I know I have. Did it drop in my lap the very next week? No! It took 15 years to understand my relationship to the world in such a way that I could harvest millions of dollars from my existence here on Earth. But first I had to see it in my mind. If I didn’t do that part, I never would have done the work to make it happen. Everything that has ever come to be via human hands started in the mind.

Visualizing is just one aspect of the the creation process.

It’s the first of many steps. When Michelangelo envisioned the David he didn’t expect it to spring out of the granite all by itself. He knew that his vision was of the end game and his job was to discover the process and implement it. If you are not a skilled sculptor, then manifesting your vision is going to be tough. Not impossible. In your life, if you can see it, you can create it. There is no magic to this.

Many people believe that visualizing outcomes that you have no expertise in will cause the outcome to occur regardless of your relationship to it. Not true. If you have a vision for a new business, there will be a lot more to it than just visualizing it. To see it clearly in your mind will simply lead you on a journey of discovering the process of manifesting your vision. You will begin to understand the beliefs, skills, disciplines, systems, procedures, relationships, and support structures necessary to manifest your vision. Depending on how close you are, it could take one day or a lifetime.

The mistake is believing that visualizing will replace the process of learning, growing, implementing, failing, trial and error, and building.

So what do you do if where you are today is not even close to where you want to be? You must manifest the right people, teachers, process, understanding and systems. For that, I’ve developed an eight-step process that works great. See the videos here.

Why Do Delegations Turn Out Different?

I delegated a trip to Mammoth Lakes California for a snow boarding trip between Christmas and New Year’s Day. I focused on getting a place for my entire family and nanny (seven people).

Over and over I got places to stay for me plus one. Finally in while in Naples with my wife this week she told me that she wanted to fly her sister and kids out over at that time to hang out with our kids.

Ah ha! That’s what was going on. I already admitted a couple blog posts ago that I wanted to just take my son Trevor. Naturally the Universe/God gives you the truth of your goals, not the “Looking good” or “Trying to please everyone” goals.

You always get what you truly want, even when you don’t want to admit it.

My intentions for today have already come true. I got on a plane this morning at 7am EST and arrived home at 12 noon PST.

We set several intentions as a family for the trip and visualized ourselves experiencing it. We intended easy, effortless, enjoyable, safe and uneventful travel. It was exactly that. Which is a miracle given we had two flights that were nearly three hours each and we were flying with a 21-month, 7, 8 & 14 year-old boys. But my guys are master manifesters.

Delegations:
I am so thankful to God for giving me the most appealing web brand, look and feel for the revision of my new www.matthewferry.com site or something better.

I am so thankful to God for helping me to carve out some time to start writing my new book, Ridiculous Bliss or something better.

Post Thanksgiving Intentions and Delegations

In an effort to inspire a community of 1300 people who are taking my current class, Instant Manifestation Now, I am documenting my personal intentions and delegations each day.

Intentions are the feeling or experience I want to have in my life. I like to write them in this way:
I intend to feel energized today. I intend to be present to my children. I intend to be at play. I intend to be loving.

Delegations are the specific measurable results I want to achieve. I am clear that I can only set the conditions for my results to occur. The final result is up to a higher power. I take the actions consistent with my goals and then trust that the best outcome will occur. So I write it in this way as an expression of my thought process.

I am so thankful to God for providing the guidance and instruction to necessary to have 450 people registered for my new Inspired Action Weekly program by the end of 2010 or something better.

I am so thankful to God for introducing me to groups and people who will expose me to the biggest players in the world who are interested in expanding their consciousness or something better.
