A client writes in, ” Sometimes I get impatient when people don’t get it (ie. They assume things, are negative…don’t think like me)…how can I become better at understanding people?? My ego gets out of whack when it wants to impose its beliefs about how things should be onto others…when my true self knows there is no right or wrong.”
I call this the spiritual Drunk Monkey. Once you become a spiritual person you put less weight in what The Drunk Monkey says so it becomes spiritual in order to get your attention again.
Your judgement is a futile attempt at surviving longer by trying to be better or fix what is broken. See The Drunk Monkey for what it is; a biological mechanism that protects you from threats that don’t exist.

Do you think the world should bow down to your infinite wisdom? If so, that mindset will make you quite unhappy. No one really cares what you think. No one cares about your opinion. No one wants to know what you have to say. Everyone is just doing what they think will make them happy.
Your happiness will ultimately come when you have the realization that your opinion doesn’t count. Nobody cares. If you’ll let that go, and just accept that you have an opinion and other people have an opinion, and that there’s going to be times when they’re aligned, and there’s gonna be times when they’re not aligned.
If you do not allow your opinion to determine whether you’re happy or not, you’re going to be a lot happier. Your opinion is the source of your suffering. There’s nothing out there in the world that is causing you to suffer. Your opinion is the source of your suffering.

When you realize that life is meaningless and the only meaning of life is in your head.
You suddenly relax and realize that life is not serious. In that moment of needing to do nothing you feel your innate pull to create something. This is called desire.
Previously desire was experienced through the mind as “I must get this done or there will be a consequence. I will be a loser. Or I will not get what I need to prove to myself that I’m valuable.”.
Once you detach from the untruth that life is important or valuable, you are free to create without any concern for whether your creations turn out or not. In that moment your creations become more powerful and joyous.

The Drunk Monkey wants to make babies and simultaneously wants to protect you from other tribes that might be dangerous.
Welcome to being an animal.

Your mind is a negative future prophesying machine. Have you noticed that? It doesn’t prophesy a very positive future. Every once in a while, it does, but the majority of the futures that it is envisioning is bad. The mind thinks it’s psychic. The mind thinks it knows the future.
But it does not know the future. The mind’s job is to find things that are potentially dangerous, and avoid them. So the mind does this generalizing and speculating. It speculates. It hypothesizes. But you know, left to its own devices, the mind is not going to hypothesize good things. It’s going to get you to focus on what isn’t working, what needs to be fixed, what is broken, what is potentially scary, what is potentially dangerous – all the negatives.
The mind will default to the negatives, which will make you feel like crap. You will not be happy if you just let the mind do what it’s doing. You must learn to control the mind. The mind makes a wonderful servant. It makes a terrible master.
