Wow! What an amazing thing you have!

istock_000006603014mediumYou were born!  Amazing!  You are reading these words on a computer!  Totally awesome.  Do you realize how lucky you are?  Do you get how fortunate you are?

You are concerned with personal development.  Hello!  That means you are interested in evolving yourself.  That is a very sophisticated pursuit.  That is one of the highest pursuits a person can undertake.  To be in the pursuit of higher awareness means you are not trying to survive.  80% of the world is just concerned with staying alive.  That’s not you.  Do you get how lucky you are?

Today just count your blessings, okay?

How do you maintain a positive mental attitude?

Breakthrough! As a life coach, my job is to support my clients in eliminating negative emotions and utilizing positive emotions to their advantage.

Maintaining a positive mental attitude is difficult because most people are taught to rely on the mind to create this attitude.

Big Mistake

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but being positive is not the mind’s job. Therefore, to “try” to think positive is a full-time job because it contradicts the mind’s real purpose.

The Mind’s Job is Not Positivity

Your mind, which I like to call The Drunk Monkey, is a biological mechanism designed to steer the body clear of danger.  Its primary motive for thinking is to look good to others, to be important, avoid embarrassment, outsmart, out-think, acquire, accumulate and accomplish.

Now it does way more than what I’ve mentioned but I don’t have 10,000 words in a blog post. :) . Check out my class Transforming Fear into Action for a complete examination of The Drunk Monkey’s motives and how to get past them.

So here’s the bottom line. All that talking in your head is designed to keep you alive longer. The problem is that you will die no matter what you think. You will not out-think death.

Now what does this have to do with having a positive mental attitude? If you can see The Drunk Monkey for what it is, a nonstop talking machine trying to keep you alive in a world where you are definitely going to die, then you can stop listening to it in non-dangerous situations.

Most people experience negativity when the world contradicts their opinion of how things “should” be.

For example, talking to your boss is not dangerous, asking someone to help you is not dangerous, and following your dreams is not dangerous.  The quickest way to maintain a positive mental attitude is to see the mind for what it really is.  See the world for what it really is: it is not dangerous.  See people for what they really are: innocent and doing the best they can.  Try it today and see how much better life is.

What does it mean to be prosperous?

istock_000004907201medium

The goal of the prosperous person is to have rich experiences in every aspect of life.  Prosperity is more of an experience one has and not necessarily an accumulation of stuff. When you are prosperous, you experience an abundance of goodness and well-being in all aspects of your life.

Prosperity is distinct from being rich.  Being rich generally means your focus is on the accumulation of wealth and money. When you choose to be prosperous, your focus is more holistic and less materialistic.  You can have a lot of material things and still feel poor or like you have not arrived yet.  A prosperous person strives to be whole, complete and satisfied with every aspect of life.

Here are ten aspects I have my clients focus on: physical well-being, mental health, spiritual, family, primary relationship (spouse/partner), business (how you make money), finances (what you do with the money you make), your social life, recreation and the contributions you make.

10 ways you let FEAR get a hold of you

No!

No!

As a life coach, very often my job is to support people in staying balanced, calm and peaceful when all hell is breaking loose in their life.  I’ve made a list of 10 ways you allow fear to get a hold of you.  At the end I give you a very simple solution.

1.  Listening to your thoughts. Your thoughts are designed to keep you alive, not make your happy.  Thoughts are automatic and generally focused on what is wrong and what needs to be avoided.  No happiness is available in the mind.

2.  Forgetting who you are. Ask a physicist and they will tell you that you are energy.  Energy can not be created or destroyed.  It can only change form.  Your body is definitely going to die.  But that’s just your body.  Consider who you are is the energy that gives your body life.  Consider that you are infinite.  Do I have any evidence of this?  No.  But it helps to relieve the fear.  Which is good enough for me.

3.  Distrusting your purpose. When you don’t trust your purpose, you feel confused and hopeless.  If you don’t know your purpose consider doing a Discover Your Purpose mentoring call with one of my coaches.  Call my office to set one up: 877-777-1970 x78.

4.  When you get fooled into believing in reality. There is an intrinsic nature to life.  But you don’t have a relationship with that.  Physicists spend their lives trying to decode actual reality.  As a human being your reality is what you think about life.  Fear gets a hold of you when you forget that you are the creator of your experience and allow The Drunk Monkey to determine your reality.

5.  Making the “I’m not there yet mindset” wrong. Life is a journey.  You are creative.  You are constantly creating.  With every new idea you are suddenly in a “I’m not there yet” mindset.  This is the nature of life and it’s not bad.  You are forever emerging into what is next in life.  Progressive, unfolding and not there yet.  That’s the way life is.  The Drunk Monkey believes you must arrive, accomplish and complete to be somebody.  It never happens.  The moment you start getting close to your current dream, the next one appears in your imagination and instantly knocks you back to “I’m not there yet”.

6.  Comparing yourself to others. The Drunk Monkey is a survival machine.  It wants you to be the most beautiful, the strongest, smartest, toughest, etc.  It’s all an act designed to pull the opposite sex towards you so that you can spread your DNA.  We don’t need you to populate the planet any more.  Getting caught up in comparing furthers the fear that you are not enough.

7.  Buying into other people’s drama. People believe that The Drunk Monkey in their head is the truth.  People believe what they see on TV is the truth.  Using muscle testing it is evident that your thoughts and the news are mostly false.  You will die and no drama will stop that.  Give up the drama and the fear will subside.

8.  Not meditating. Nothing will keep you in fear more then believing in The Drunk Monkey.  Meditation is one of the only ways to keep your perspective and see The Drunk Monkey for what it is, “A Survival Machine”.

9.  Not eating in an effective way. Too much sugar and too many empty calories weaken your body and subsequently weaken your mindset.  So many of our clients ruin their happiness and get sucked into fear by over-polluting their body.

10.  Having too much alcohol. Alcohol weakens your body and weakens your mindset.  It takes most people 1-2 days to recover from drinking too much alcohol.  These few days are often times of mental torment and fear.  So consider limiting it.

To help you stay out of fear, consider doing my 15 day free e-course called 15 Bulletproof Strategies to get inspired and in action on your dreams now!  Looking forward to helping you get out of fear, today.

Why most visioning fails to keep you inspired

goldfish jumping out of the waterI was just noodling on the web and ran across someone’s slides on how to create your future.  He goes on to tell us the classic way to create your future is to think about life from this perspective… What if there were no limitations?  The problem with this approach is that it does not honor The Drunk Monkey!

The Drunk Monkey’s job is to keep you alive by changing, fixing, avoiding or killing anything that might be potentially threatening.  The very fact that you and I have that machine running in the background insures that we can NOT think or operate from the mindset of no limitation.  Yes, I might be able to come up with a no limit thought.  But actually implementing it is a nightmare.  Why?

The Drunk Monkey’s job is to run in the background of my life and silently steer my body away from danger.  New, different, amazing, mind blowing, out of the box and no limit all represent the unknown which The Drunk Monkey naturally avoids.  So my no limit thinking is overridden by my body’s natural aversion to the unknown.

In the Inspired Action Coaching Program we (the coaches and I) know that you must illuminate The Drunk Monkey and it’s motives if you are going to be able to make drastic changes.  After you can spot The Drunk Monkey trying to protect you from your new future, then you can really make radical changes with minimal fear.  If you don’t see The Drunk Monkey running your life, then you are stuck. You are The Drunk Monkey’s puppet.

If you haven’t read my basic outline of how The Drunk Monkey runs the show, check out The Truth Virus.

3 ways to eliminate negativity

As the owner of a life coaching company I am constantly faced with the problem of helping very powerful and productive people get out of negativity.  Nothing kills your productivity faster then negativity.  Here are three suggestions the coaches and I are giving our clients.

1.  Stop watching the news.  The news does not have a commitment to the truth.  The news has a commitment to sensationalism which scares the crap out of people and keeps them glued to the TV.  Commercial media is a great strategy to sell commercials.  Not a great strategy for your happiness.  If something important is happening, the people in your life will be happy to share it with you.

2.  Stop reading the news on the internet.  Turn off that feature on your Google or Yahoo home page.  There is very little news that has any relevance to you and your personal life.  We have clients all over the world whose lives dramatically improve after they give up their news addiction.  Now, some of our clients’ business is dependent on the news.  In that case, we have other ways of fighting off the deliberate negativity.  Look for the post on the 10/10 visualization process.

3.  Stop seeking validation that life is bad and things aren’t good.  Quit asking your friends how bad things are.  Stop asking your friends how they are doing with their problems.  Start asking people about what solutions they are implementing to make their lives better.  This is not Pollyanna, it’s a practical way to stay focused on what you can do something about.

Today just notice how much The Drunk Monkey (your mind) loves negativity and pulls you towards it.  That’s it’s job.
